    Pizza from my garden

    October 10, 2011

When you grow a garden and it is somewhat successful it is so much fun to cook the herbs, vegetables into a lovely lunch or dinner. Just the other day I made a vegetable pizza. I picked tomatoes, bell pepper, hot pepper, onions and garlic, along with some basil, oregano, parsley and thyme from the garden. Then I took some of the frozen tomatoes, I had picked and frozen, from the freezer and started to make some sauce from those. (Years ago I would have canned them and if I had my children at home again, I would still. It is very easy to freeze them whole, rinse them under warm water to remove the skin, let them sit a few minutes and chopped them up.) I started the pizza dough in my bread maker. The plan was to thinly slice the bell pepper and the freshly picked tomato for the topping along with some leaves from the basil, place them on the pizza dough top with sauce and cheese. It was wonderful. What was the best is that it came from my garden and fed my husband and myself. The truth, hmmm, the crust was a bit tough; I will do better next time. I am happy.

In the greenhouse, I have two tomato plants and some basil growing. Also I am experimenting with a couple of cucumber plants. My goal is to have them grow far in to the fall and winter. In the garden outside I have planted the starts of some lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli.

This this is a first for me, normally the wild life around here does not leave my gardens alone. It is so exciting that I have had some success in both of these outdoor gardens areas. I am not going to question why the rabbits and deer have left my Memory Garden alone, just happy that they have. Not true in the other garden area’s but I am not complaining.

Wonderful blog you have here but I was waintng to know if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics talked about here? I’d really like to be a part of online community where I can get feed-back from other experienced individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Kudos!
