    Our Memory Garden During Ye...

My wishes are that you have had a good holiday and that you and your families are well.

    January 1, 2012

Mine was a very good holiday, although during the holiday I found that my garden greenhouse had problems.  It will just take work, darn, I was hoping that it would be ok and maybe the plug was just an un-plugged plug.  My seed bed heat mat is not heating.  Luckily, I have most of my seedlings out of it, although there are some cuttings still there.  They have not been the bed long enough to develop a strong root system yet, if I remove them I am afraid that I will lose most of them.

The greenhouse is maintaining a fairly good temperature during the night, soon though it will not be able too.  I am going to wait to remove the planting medium and leave the cuttings undisturbed for a bit.  This also gives me time to consider changing my planting medium.  I am happy with the lava sand and vermiculite mixture.  The reason I thought about changing it was my pathways in the Memory Garden seem to grow anything without an effort, and I am jealousJ.  I had crushed granite down for the pathways and I love it.  If a seed from the Buddleia lands on it, thyme, or Alyssum, and Sage! It takes.  It is amazing. But it is a bit expensive, and for me, a bit of a drive to get it, so I will probably stick to the lava sand.

The other disappointment is I wanted to use the grow bag and frame to increase the floor space in the greenhouse and I have not been able to find the grow bag.  I was told that the Scott Company has stopped producing and selling the bag.  I can get the frame, but what good is it to me if I cannot buy the bag.  An Associate Buyer from Ace Hardware came up with some solutions for me to look at.  From what I heard it might be even better.  I am looking for light weight soil bags that can be hung on a stand and moved easily without spilling.  The reason for the stand is to keep them upright and easy to water.  If I had a sunny room, or a patio it would be a perfect place to grow herbs, and greens in the winter and vegetables in the summer, I do not have the sunny room, or patio, but I am lucky to have a greenhouse.
